A water pipe leak in Lanzarote – or anywhere else for that matter – can be a real pain because in most cases you cannot see it. Certainly, if you get a leak under the kitchen sink you should be able to see it and deal with it. A pipe leak in Lanzarote under the bath can also be seen fairly easily, albeit that you will have to remove the covering at the side or end of the bath to get in there and have a look.

However, pipe leaks elsewhere can be the devil’s own job to find. This is because for the most part, pipes run where they cannot be seen. After all, we don’t want to see our water pipes, so they are hidden away underground, under the floors, inside the walls, and above the ceiling. All places where you cannot see them.

However, there is another problem with pipe leaks and that is that they can cheerfully be doing their “thing” – leaking – for months before you even know that they are doing it!

In fact, the first time that you might suspect something is if you have an unusually high water bill. If that should happen to you and you have not been using excess water, then you should certainly consider that you may have a leaking pipe.

You might also notice dampness in the floor or perhaps in a wall, and this could also be caused by a leaking water pipe.

But where?

For instance, you may notice dampness on the wall. This might make you think that you have a leaking pipe behind the damp spot, but this may not be the case. It could be leaking in the ceiling above, where it meets the wall. But you don’t want to start hacking away at plaster to try and find a leak that may not be where you think it is.

The Same Thing Applies Outside

The same thing applies outside. You could have a leak in the pipe bringing the water into your home. If you notice that the grass is particularly wet, or the same in a flower bed, that might give you a clue. But again, there can be differences in the soil itself, and the leak may not be where it seems to be.

For example, we can check your pipe interiors using CCTV. This will produce a high-resolution video which will identify the point of the leak. We also have something called a Pipe Mic which can be inserted into the pipe and listen for escaping water.

In addition, if the leak is outside, we can use a Gas Check which will pressurise the pipe with a safe gas. This can then be detected on the ground surface where the leak is occurring.
