Is Your Water Pipe Leaking? Even If It Is, How Will You Know?
pipe leak in Lanzarote

One of the most insidious things that can happen in any building in Lanzarote, or anywhere else for that matter, is water leaking from your water pipes. This is because in most cases you will have no idea that it is happening. Not only that, but a pipe leak in Lanzarote can do serious damage to your home or business and run into thousands of euros to repair.

This is why, if you have the slightest suspicion that you have a pipe leak in Lanzarote, you must do everything you can in order to locate it and fix it before it gets far, far worse. If you leave it as it is, it will only get worse in any case, as it is not going to get any better.

The problem with a leaking water pipe is that not only can you not see it, but even if you know it is happening, you have no way of knowing where it is.

Our water pipes run underground, under the floor, over the ceiling, and through the walls of our homes. Fair enough, if a pipe leaks from a ceiling and water starts dripping down from it, then you have an idea of what is going on. Even then it may not be easy to locate the exact point of a leak. However, if it is in a wall or under the floor, you can’t see it, you can’t hear it, and it won’t show up until it has done a lot of damage.

An Increase In Your Water Bill

The first thing that you may notice is that your water bill has gone up. If you have a water leak, then obviously your water meter is going to notice that, and you will be charged accordingly. (On that note, you also need to be aware that a new law, passed on October 24th, 2020, from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, that regulates the control of certain measuring instruments and devices, set the lifespan of water meters for residential use at twelve years. That means that you either have to buy a new one or have the pipe tested by a verified body to show that it is still working correctly).

In any case, it is a good idea to keep an eye on your water meter because even a small leak can waste 10,000 gallons (over 45,000 litres) of water a year. That is almost literally money going down the drain! Except that, if you have a leak, it can be going under your floor, down the wall, etc.

Your water pipes run underground into your home, and you may possibly notice that the grass in one area is greener than others, or that paving stones are shifting and/or cracking. This could well be due to a pipe leak in Lanzarote, but where do you begin? The old way of doing things is to start from where the water enters your property and then begin to dig along the apparent line of the water pipe, hoping that you will find the leak sooner rather than later. You might. Then again, you might not.

A far better option is to call us at Canary Detect. Locating underground services – and leaks in water pipes – is what we do. We have the very latest technology that lets us find leaks in water pipes using CCTV, sound, and even a safe gas which can be sent along the pipe and located using a sensor on the ground.

We can also detect leaks in your walls, under the floor, and in ceilings. So, no matter where the problem is, we can find it, and then we can also fix it for you.

Problem solved!
